Actually, Ricky Rubio plays in the Timberwolves of Minnesota. He has been doing great and often formed part of the daily top ten plays. In the same team also plays JJ Barea which is other point guard that knows spanish and has been in the league for a couple of years and helps Ricky to learn english and understand basketball better. However, the adaptation is to the american type or way to play is hard for any player that does not come from this continent. American basketball is usually more physical and more competitive, playing games every two days. On the other hand, europeans teams play a maximum of 3 games per day unless is a tournament. All these factors affected him when he first arrived in the US. However, his talent compensates the lack of physical power he has. Unfortunately, a couple of months ago he turned ACL in a game against the lakers. He will not play for a long time and is probable that he will not play the 2012 olympics in London with Spain. However, all spanish people hope that Ricky will be able to play in the olympics since he did so well 4 years ago against the US in the championship game where he got the silver medal.

When he was 16, he became the youngest player to participate in a european championship. A couple of years after that, he was able to make the absolute national team and play wit some of his heroes like Pau Gasol or Marc Gasol. He was also considered the best basketball player in the world that is not in the NBA. At that time, he decided to achieve the dream that any basketball player wants to, which is to play in the NBA. He decided to present himself in the NBA draft while he was in DKV Juventud. He was the fifth pick in the draft chosen by Minnesota Timberwolves. However, he did not want to go that year directly to the league because he wanted, before leave Spain, to win the spanish league. In order to achieve that, he moved to FC Barcelona which is a team in the same city but more competitive and with better chances to win the league. He achieved that and also was able to win the european championship which was impossible to think of a 19 years old point guard to win that tournament being one of the most important players of the team.

 With time, Ricky Rubio gained an important role in the team, and he started playing games frequently. When he was 15 he attended the U15 european championship where he was one of the biggest protagonists, not only for his team, but for the whole championship. He started becoming famous when he  was able to make an amazing play to tied the game for the over time. In this game he scored 51 points and had more than 10 rebounds and more than 10 assist which is even extraordinary for a professional basketball player like Kobe Bryant or Lebron James. He was alternating the national team and the professional life he was living. However, he still had to go to school which was very hard for him because professional teams usually practice twice a day. The school also helped him, allowing him to make up exams and homework that he had due the days he was on a tournament or traveling, These was a tough life that a 15 years old child had to live in order to become the player he is now.

Ricky Rubio never knew that he was going to become a professional basketball player so early. Everybody knew he was a great player, but never, in basketball history, a 14 years old player has even practice with one of the top teams in Europe. Ricky and his coaches did not planed him to play at that level. One day, Ricky did a favor to a friend and and went to see his friend's brother how he practiced with the professional team. At that time, the team was suffering many injures and they did not have enough players. The coach saw Ricky and ask him if he wanted to practice with them. He did not even have his shoes. However, another friend of his was there and Ricky ask him for his shoes. He practiced and everybody got impressed by his ability to play basketball with 14 years. Ricky started practicing with them eventually and little by little gaining a spot in that team. A couple of weeks before he turned 15 years old, coach called him and told him that the team needed him because the other point guard got injured. That day he played and actually a lot for a 14 years old player.

Ricky Rubio at the begining started playing soccer since he was about 6. All his friends started playing soccer because it is the most famous sport in Spain. However, he knew that soccer was not his favorite sport and that he felt force by his friends to play it. Then, he decided to try to make the team in one of the best teams nationally, DKV Juventud, which is known as the club that most players has taken to a professional level. Since the first time he got in a basketball court he showed that he had talent for this sport. He, as well as his brother, has always been good at any sport. His brother also encouraged him to play basketball. Since he was about 12 years old he has been forming part and been selected to play for the spanish national team for that respective age.  He participated many times in national championships where he was already known because of his leadership, his ability to pass the ball and to play defense on any defender. Physically, Ricky Rubio has always been a leader, he is about 6'5 and plays as a point guard. He was always the number one prospect in Spain since the first day he started playing this sport.

At the age of 14, his team, DKV Juventud, gave him the opportunity to have a debut in the second strongest league in the world, the ACB. At the age of 16, he was the youngest player ever born to play in a Euroleague game. On June 25, 2009, Ricky sign an agreement with Minnesota Timberwolves. However, Ricky decided to sign a six-year contract with FC Barcelona, which is considered one of the strongest teams in Europe. In contrast, for the season 2011-2012 he decided to play in the NBA.
